LIST OF POETIC DEVICES , USED HERE ---
1) CONSONANCE ---- Focus on the 5th line and see , " Has " and
" Heart " . In this line both the starting and ending word are with
the same Consonant , " H" . This usage is called , "
CONSONANCE " .
2) ALLITERATION ---- Some words are sounding a bit of same and the Alphabets are very
closed . ---------------------------- . This usage is called "
ALLITERATION".
3) METAPHOR --------------With the words like ' Dust " and " Heart" -The poet
here used nice usage of Metaphor .
4) SYMBOLIIFICATION ----- The " Crow " and " Hemlock " are generally
thought to be the symbol of negative or evil power .The poet brought them in
the very first stanza in a normal situation . And next , he confirmed about his
negative psychological state . So very technically , we can consider the poet
to draw a triangle of negativity with the words like , CROW , HEMLOCK AND RUED
.
This can be treated as a
nice symbolification .
5) IRONY --
In the " Symbolification " part , when we imagine the CROW and HEMLOCK
to be the ultimate symbol of negative power and in the end when The poet tagged
them to recover him from an unknown depressive mood , then it could be treated
as a nice usage of IRONY .
6) ENJAMBENT ------ Through the total poetry , "Dust of the
gold " - we got only one sentence to be continued without any punctuation
till the end . This is called " ENJAMBENT " .
BASIC QUESTION AND ANSWER --
What is the summary of
dust of snow?
'Dust of Snow' is a
beautiful short poem written by Robert Frost to focus on the so little elements
to be highly impressive in our life . It is also about to defy many ongoing
stigmas like the crow to be the symbol of negativity . Hemlock might be a source
of poison . But everything depends on our perspective to react .
What is the message in the poem?
In my opinion , that The poet , Robert Frost , through his poetry , " Dust of Gold " tried to keep the simple message about the impact of so little and neglected elements to be a great factor .And this is not only to the so called sensible elements like light , sound , heat etc , but also to the inner psychology.
What does hemlock tree
represent?
The "Hemlock " is here represented by the poet in dualistic mode. Firstly it was matched with the negative psychology of the poet and then in the final time , with an Irony , this Hemlock tree , became a part mode refreshment of the poet .
What is the central theme of the poem ?
The central theme of
this poetry ' Dust of Snow" is like elemental dualistic character of
universe . The Crow , The Hemlock tree and Even the poet’s psychology appeared
to be in a negative form . And then the “ Dust of Snow” switched everything
into positive vibe . This unstable elemental entity may be treated as the
central idea of the poem .
What is irony poetry?
As a literary device,
irony means a basic conflict of something on saying and doing . It is
highly contextual . , The audience gets to see the implied meaning in spite of the
contradiction.
What are the birds that are usually named in poems? Do you think crow is often mentioned in poems? What images come to your mind when you think of a crow?
Commonly majority of
the poets , depict the birds like parrot , dove , cuckoo ,
peacock etc , as a part of beauty ,
freshness , life like positive vibes.
But Robert Frost appeared
here with a different approach as crow is not so vastly depicted in poetry .
He opted a crow, which
is not generally used in poems. The black crow with harsh voice
seems to unlucky and it is a kind of stigma , which has been ignored by Robert
Frost here in this poetry .
What is a “ Dust of snow “ ?
How the poet’s mood is changed with it ?
Very technically “
Dust of Snow” means a detached and flowing article from the snow . In poetic
format , Snow might be the like the lifelessness. But the “ Dust of Snow “ indicates to universal transformation .
In the unstable
universe , the poet’s sadness can not be stable one . It is changed along with
the time and space and the “ Dust of Snow “ did here as changing factor to
poet’s mentality .
Have you felt
yourself to be depressed ? And anything happened to you to change your
mood as it was happened to the poet ?
Yes , there were times
, when I felt depressed with so many happenings .
In many cases , I came
out of depression to get more and people in reality to struggle for basic food
, shelter and so many things . It shocked me and also made me felt , that I was
in far better way than numberless people . Actually these people inspired me a
lot .
Why was the poet standing under the Hemlock tree ?
Though the “ Standing
of the poet “ under the Hemlock tree was not scheduled , but the way , the poet
was in sad mode and with the “ Dust of Snow”
was switched to joy , the hemlock tree could be the representative of
greater pain to reduce the pain of poet in an allegorical form .
What does the
poet ROBERT FROST want to
convey through the poem “ DUST OF SNOW” ?
In my opinion , the
poet , Robert Frost wanted to focus on the simplification of life and the
bonding between our life and nature . None is negative here and the nature
keeps us busy like a mother to heal others. .
How has the poet observed the Nature in his poetry , “ Dust of
Snow” ?
The poet Robert Frost
, In his poem , “ Dust of Snow “ observed the nature in an universal motherhood
form to harmonize each and one to heal the others .
What is ‘a hemlock tree’? Why doesn’t the poet
write about more ‘beautiful’ tree such as a maple, or an oak, or a pine?
The hemlock is a poisonous plant with small white
flowers. Poet, Robert Frost might be
with his realistic view , presented here “The Hemlock “ as his own different
concept about beauty and bitterness .
And Maple , Pine , Oak
are generally depicted as beauty , life and stability . Might be The poet
wanted to show the Hemlock as his inner source of joy and also to hit the
stigma about the negativity of Hemlock .
EXPLAIN –“ And saved some part of the a day , I had rued” ---
This line is of the poetry , “ Dust of Snow”
by Robert Frost , who uttered this words in monologue pattern after
rediscovering a newer and inner self entity to come out from pain to joy with
the touch of “Dust of Snow” .
The poet is here realistic here about the loss
that he gained and also positive about the time that is yet to come after self
discovery .
What difference do you
find between Robert Frost and other nature poet ?
After reading the poetry , “ Dust of Snow “ by
Robert Frost , I personally think on the conceptual nature between Robert Frost
and others , is to be of self perspective .
When many other poets beautified the nature , then Robert Frost gave the
nature a different and dualistic entity to saddened and heal , too .
What is the possible
theme of this poetry ? What do you learn from it ? Make citation in favor of
your statement ?
I think that , the universal and elemental
transformation is the main theme here .
The poet was sad , stood under a hemlock tree
and a crow and “Dust of Snow” tuned him to joy . This is the ultimate way for
the connectivity of every elements in the universe and lead them to inner light
again and again .
I personally think after reading this poetry
about the life to be like a rolling stone with time and space .
In the last line “ And some part of a day , I
had rued “ indicates the poet to be aware of his loss and to be hopeful about
the saved part of a day , that is yet to come .
“Nature has the power
to lift our mood even when we are highly despondent ”- comment your word on the
basis of the poem “ Dust of Snow ”/ Small things in our life make significant
changes in our life – elaborate it with the concept of the poem , “ Dust of
Snow”
We human being is a part of nature and our
psychological downfall and arising is also very natural with the changing time
and space . Our every psychological move is highly multidimensional .
The way , a budding flower can make happy a
person , who is attached with the garden , same way a dying plant can sadden
the gardener . It is all about the psychological connectivity and this
connection own perspective . Nothing is too small to make a big change .
In the poem , “ Dust of Snow” we got the sad poet to be under a hemlock
tree , which was covered with snow and a crow somehow to make the “ Dust of the
snow “ on the poet . And the poet came to positive stage of mind with hope .
We do not know exactly about the way the “
Dust of Snow” acted on the poet . But the fact is that , it acted and the poet
declared it in the last line of this poetry .
Why did the poet , Robert Frost depict about a crow and hemlock tree in the first stanza of his poetry , “ Dust of Snow” ?
As a great artist of word play , Robert Frost
in his poetry , “Dust of Snow” depicted Crow and Hemlock tree as resource here
with many possibilities .
These could be the symbol of his painful
mental state .
And it could be also possible , that these
crow and hemlock tree later played a vital role in his mood transmission from
negativity to positivity . Might be the poet wanted to make us out of stigma
with crow and hemlock tree .
What is your personal
opinion about Robert Frost’s word playing skill ?
Among many famous English Poet , Robert Frost
is one of the greatest word player . The way , within the short poem , “ Dust
of Snow” , Robert Frost maintained numberless poetic devices and came to a
positive conclusive point , it is just beyond any question .
