A TRIUMPH OF SERGERY
Author – James Herriot . A famous Vet , Author and Animal Lover .
Main character of the story – James Herriot as The narrator , Tricki , a pet dog or pet child , Mrs Pumphray ,financially rich and a bit of ignorant and over affectionate to her pet child , Tricki .
BASIC POINTS ------
Tricki was a small pet dog and highly loved by his mistress, Mrs. Pumphery.
He was habituated with random food and not
enough exercise .
He became fat & Mrs. Pumphery thought
him to be suffered from malnutrition.
Mrs Pumphery was a rich woman and highly
connected with her pet child .
Mrs Pumphray was supposed to be a lonely
lady in own life .
She gave him some little extras between
meals to build him up, malt, cod-liver oil and a bowl of Horlicks at night.
Once he became ill & she was worried &
made a frantic call to Dr Herriot , who was a vet.
The vet already had given suggestions regarding
Tricki’s balanced diet. But she never followed it.
He was a vet. He was shocked to see Tricki
hugely fat and unfit.
He advised her to cut down on the sweet
foods.
He expected the call to be within a few days & it happened. He was
called by Mrs. Pumphery as Tricki is not eating .
He told her that Tricki needed immediate
hospitalization for keeping under observation at his surgery for a fortnight.
There the vet stopped any food and applied
no medicine but plenty of water.
Gradually he matched with other dogs & started playing with
them.
He had a lot of exercises & fun there
in pack life.
He was completely recovered &
transformed into a hard muscled dog.
James Herriot treated the dog without medicine or surgery ,
rather applied a lifestyle based treatment .
She was happy & filled with gratitude.
She thanked Herriot & said it was a
triumph of surgery.
BELLOW HERE , I ANSWERED TO SOME COMMON QUESTIONS TO SET AN IDEA . BETTER YOU ONLY READ THEM AND WRITE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM OWN PERSPECTIVE .
SOME SAMPLE QUESTION AND ANSWER ----
1) Why is Mrs Pumphray so worried about her Tricki ?
Very technically a pet is family member and not less than a child to owner . So naturally Mrs Pumphray put all attentions on Tricki . So when Tricki did not respond to normal activites , Mrs Pumphray got worried .
Along with that , Mrs Pumphray was a bit over anxious about her pet child , Triki . So Mrs Pumphray got worried due to affection and over anxiety about her Tricki .
2) What does she do to help him ? Is she enough wise to do such ?
Due to a motherly heart and over anxiety for Tricki , Mrs Pumphray did a lot . She made a positive move to discuss with the vet in time .
Apart from it , whatever she did for Tricki , could be highly risky for his life . Adding chocolate , snacks and specially wine , could really degrade Tricki’s physical condition .
I think that , even having a big heart for own pet child , Mrs Pumphray was not enough wise to maintain Tricki in a proper way . what is desired by a dog .
3) Was the narrator so rich like Mrs Pumphray / Tricki’s owner ?
4) How did he / the vet / the narrator treat the dog / Tricki ?
The narrator , James Herriot , who was by profession was a vet , treated the pet child , “ Tricki “ in his own hospital through a non traditional way . Without any further medicine or surgery , he focused on the diet of Tricki and his proper socialization with dogs there . Throgh a strict and scheduled diet , he brought back Tricki’s physical fitness . And through free physical movement and involvement within the pack , he brought Tricki from boredom and depression .
As a vet , the narrator here applied a lifestyle based treatment .
5) Why Mrs Pamphrey called it , “ A TRIUMPH OF SURGERY “ ?
In medical science , the word , “Surgery” indicates to an urgent medical process to cure and prevent the complication. Sometimes , it is considered as the highest level of medical efficiency to save a life .
Though in the story , here is no indication of any surgery for the pet , conducted by the vet , but still Mrs Pamphray , used the word ,” Surgery” as to her , the complications of her pet child so high . And the word “Triumph “ indicates to positive result of the treatment on the pet child .
6) How do you like to describe “ The Narrator “ after reading the story both as a vet and a common person ?
After reading the story , “ A Triumph of surgery” , I think that , the narrator , James Herriot , who was a vet by profession , was cool tempered , good observer and highly experimental , as he applied a life style based treatment to Tricki , instead of traditional medicinal treatment .
The way , here the narrator , along with the treatment of dogs in his hospital , managed the over anxious lady like , Mrs Pumphray , it would focus on his excellent common sense and aware of human psychology , too.
7) Do you think , that Tricki would be happy to go back to his luxurious life again ? What could be the possible future here ?
Generally , dogs are the happiest one to be with their owner . So may be for few days , Tricki would be missing the pack life , but hopefully he would be happy to with Mrs Pumphray . His happiness is connected with the owner , but not with the luxury .
Tricki adjusted himself in both rich and simple pack life . So the future is on Mrs Pumphray’s self realization and reaction to happenings .
8) Write your own opinion about Mrs Pumphray after reading the story ---
Like so many mother , she unknowingly cared too much about her Tricki . Over affection and anxiety led her to many wrong doings like over feeding , adding chocolate and wine to Tricki’s diet .
These could be dangerous to Tricki’s life .
But ultimately , we get Tricki to be the her connections to life . Her doings may be wrong due to ignorance and hyper activity , but her love and affection for Tricki , was beyond any question .
9) “ Over Pampering / one eyed thinking and so many categorical behavior based approaches of the parents to any child ( both human and animal ) can degrade the life of child " --- What is your own view on this statement ? Define your view about standard parenting :-----
In most of the cases , over pampering to any sort of child by the parents , is caused by over affection and having much times . Though it should not be and still it happens very unknowingly by parents .
In most the cases , children may be misguided and later they may take undo advantages from situation .
The effect of such over pampering comes in negative way , when it is hard to manage .
Standard Parenting :------- In my view , “ Parenting “ is an art to rediscover the own for the parents and the child in ongoing changing situation . The main objective of standard parenting should be , trying to fit the child for upcoming days with positive vibes to his surroundings .
